May 5 - along the coast road near Borgo Grappe, between Nettuno and Sabaudia. After leaving Nettuno, which had a beautiful medieval quarter which was the site of our first (but unfortunately not last) flat tire of the trip, we continued along the coast. A good bit of this route was through a military zone, and therefore undeveloped, with lots less traffic and lots of dunes and dune plants. We passed over and by canals with small boats in various states of repair, and saw quite a few cyclists.
